Casa Colorado FAQ

Everything families ask before booking our Tamarindo vacation rental home

The house

How many people does Casa Colorado sleep?

Up to 12. The main house sleeps 9: a king master suite, a queen bedroom, a bunk room with a twin-over-full bunk, and a sofa bed in the great room. The separate casita sleeps 3 in a queen and a twin. Every bedroom has its own bathroom, four in total.

Is it good for two families travelling together?

Yes, and it’s one of the most common ways guests use the house. The casita has its own entrance, bathroom, kitchenette, air conditioning and TV, so grandparents or a second family get real privacy. Everyone still shares the pool, garden and outdoor dining areas.

Is there air conditioning?

Yes. Every bedroom, including the casita, has its own air conditioning.

How fast is the Wi-Fi? Can I work remotely?

Very. The house has fiber internet at 350+ Mbps down and 100+ Mbps up, with several networks covering the main house and casita. Video calls and streaming work fine.

What’s special about the pool?

It’s a private, natural-shape, black-bottom pool with a stone waterfall, jacuzzi jets and evening lighting, shaded by big tropical trees. It also has the only private pool rope swing in Tamarindo. The pool is 5 feet deep. Kids (and plenty of adults) spend whole days on it. It’s also where many of the Five Parks Yoga classes on YouTube are filmed.

Is the property private and secure?

Yes. It’s surrounded by 7 to 10 foot walls and a fence on all four sides, with a gated, secure driveway. Keypad entry lets you leave keys behind when you go surfing. There are electronic safes in the house.

Will we see monkeys?

Very likely. The back of the property borders a protected green zone, and resident howler monkeys and iguanas regularly move through the trees above the pool.

Is there housekeeping?

Yes. Ingris, our housekeeper of more than 16 years, comes up to three times a week and takes care of the cleaning and the towel and sheet laundry. The pool is cleaned 3 to 5 days a week. Bed linens, bath towels and beach towels are provided.

Location and getting here

How far is Casa Colorado from the beach?

About a 4-minute walk to Playa Tamarindo. The house is on a quiet street at the south end of town, so it’s peaceful at night but close to restaurants, shops and surf breaks.

Which airport do we fly into, and how do we get to the house?

Fly into Liberia (LIR), about 1 hour 15 minutes from Tamarindo by car. San José (SJO) is about 4.5 to 5 hours away. Our local property managers can book a private transfer for your group, and they can stop at a large supermarket on the way so you arrive stocked up.

Do we need a car?

No. The beach, restaurants, shops, surf schools and a grocery store are all within walking distance, and tour operators pick you up at the house. If someone in your group needs help getting around, we can arrange a golf cart rental.

Where do we buy groceries?

Super Pura Vida, the closest grocery store, is about 200 m away. The Vindi has the best fruit and vegetables (plus a pharmacy and ATM), and Auto Mercado, the big supermarket, is a short taxi ride. There’s also a Thursday night farmers’ market in town. The concierge can also arrange grocery delivery before you arrive. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, with a dishwasher and a gas BBQ grill outside. Pantry staples aren’t included. The tap water is safe to drink, and the kitchen has a filtered, chilled water tap.

Activities

Is Tamarindo good for surfing? Can you arrange lessons?

Yes. Playa Tamarindo has gentle, beginner-friendly waves near town, and stronger breaks nearby for experienced surfers, all within walking distance of the house. We can arrange board rentals and lessons, and the house has a teak surf rack and an outdoor shower for rinsing off. See our guide: Best Surf Breaks in Tamarindo.

What else is there to do?

Popular options include zip-lining, catamaran sunset cruises, river and wildlife tours, fishing, spa days, and a private chef cooking a Costa Rican dinner at the house. Our concierge team can book any of these. See The Ultimate Family Guide to Tamarindo and our Tamarindo restaurant guide.

Is Casa Colorado good for kids?

It’s built for families. Kids get the rope swing, an outdoor ping pong table, ring toss and a garden full of wildlife, and the beach is close enough to go back and forth all day. The whole property is walled and gated, but the pool itself isn’t fenced. It’s 5 feet deep with a rope swing, so young children should always be supervised.

Seasons and weather

When is the best time to visit Tamarindo?

Dry season (December to April) is sunny almost every day and is peak season. Green season (May to November) usually brings sunny mornings, short afternoon showers, lush scenery, fewer crowds and lower rates. September and October are the rainiest months and the least expensive. Christmas, New Year and Easter week book up first.
